The Australasian Academy of Dento-Facial Aesthetics (AADFA) is dedicated to advancing the art and science of aesthetic dentistry through the use of facial injectable treatments by the dental profession.

We are committed to ensuring the highest standards of ethical conduct; clinical excellence and responsible patient care and achieve this by offering superior educational opportunities to the dental profession; supporting continued research and development; serving as a positive, user-friendly and inviting forum for the creative exchange of knowledge and ideas; and providing accurate and useful information to the public and the profession.

AADFA is the only organisation of its kind in Australasia, with our fundamental principle being to promote excellence through comprehensive education. To this end our efforts focus on offering thorough, "hands-on", practical training modules to Dentists in the use of facial aesthetic techniques, with ongoing clinical and administrative support.

We believe we are pioneering new levels of education and standards for facial injectable treatments within the wider health profession to ensure greater levels of accountability and safe patient care. Until now the cosmetic medicine industry at large has been poorly regulated and controlled and AADFA aims to lead the way in self-regulation and accreditation of Dentists to the highest international standards.

Director's Message

"Progression is often challenging and during the development of AADFA this has proven especially true.

Like all such professions, Dentistry is steeped in tradition and establishment, which sometimes translates into an antiquated mindset and a reluctance to readily accept new concepts that may expand the realm of modern dental practice for the benefit of patient treatment.

The use of facial injectables by Dentists transcends the introduction of simple new techniques and materials and is really about an entirely new and holistic approach to aesthetic dentistry.

Complete dento-facial aesthetics is about accepting that we have reached a point in Dentistry where we do teeth well - it's not possible to make them any whiter or straighter! It is about understanding the fact that while we see a set of teeth, friends, family and the patients themselves see an entire face.

When someone smiles it is a full-face event and goes beyond just beautiful teeth - so should Dentists in the pursuit of achieving better, more natural and harmonious aesthetic results for our patients.

The question in our minds has never been - Should Dentists be administering facial injectables? It has always been - Why aren't Dentists using them already? With their high level of training and experience of injecting the dento-facial anatomy; their unparalleled levels of infection control and patient care within the health industry; and their exceptional understanding of facial aesthetics, the use of facial injectables by Dentists is not only a completely plausible and logical extension of current practices, but they are arguably the very best people to be providing these treatments to the public in a safe clinical environment.

Unfortunately, it seems that politics will always play a strong part in the development of new innovations in the health industry and there are some medical practitioners who seek to protect their financial position rather than consider what is in the best interests of holistic patient treatment. However, we remain determined to fulfill our commitment to expanding the horizons of our profession for the sake of better patient outcomes.

AADFA's is setting Dentists as the "Gold Standard" within the wider cosmetic industry. Having set a clear training pathway for Dentists, we are the only organisation in Australasia to provide ongoing practical and theoretical assessment of its members in order to fully accredit their practices in line with our strict clinical procedures and protocols.

This means that, for the first time, the public can rest assured that by entrusting their care to an AADFA Member Dentist, they are receiving treatment from a practitioner who has not only undergone the highest levels of training in facial aesthetic procedures, but also continues their education, growth and development within the profession, follows proven safe and effective clinical techniques and maintains the highest levels of infection control and ethical treatment."
